The purchase comes just seven months after Bulgheroni purchased 134 hectares of land, including 25ha of vines, from the owner of Fattoria dei Barbi for a reported 15 million euros ($19.9 million).
However, the Argentine investor did not have a winery facility and the purchase of Podere Brizio provides a much-needed cellar. The acquisition also provides him with an additional 7 hectares of Brunello di Montalcino vineyard, 1 hectare in Rosso di Montalcino, and 1.25 hectares in Sant'Antimo, Italian website WineNews reports.
Winery owners Roberto Bellini and Patrizia Mazzi have sold the estate for an undisclosed sum. Neither they nor Bulgheroni responded to requests from Wine-Searcher to be interviewed.
Podere Brizio’s neighbors include Gianfranco Soldera's Case Basse winery, which was attacked last year by a former employee, who drained more than 60,000 liters of wine from the cellar's tanks.
Bulgheroni, whose fortune is estimated at $5.5 billion by Forbes, also owns Chianti Classico estate Dievole.
