Etats Unis : Seghesio Family Vinyards rachète Montafi Ranch Vinyard (Russian River Valley)

Seghesio Family Vineyards, the Healdsburg winery known for producing critically acclaimed Zinfandel wines that honor the history of Sonoma and the Seghesio family heritage, has purchased a 24-acre property with old vine Zinfandel located just outside of the Santa Rosa city limits in the Russian River Valley AVA.

Known historically as the Montafi Ranch Vineyard, this property will join the Seghesio portfolio of more than 300 acres across celebrated Sonoma County regions including the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys which all contribute to Seghesio’s Sonoma, Home Ranch, Cortina, Old Vine and Rockpile Zinfandels. This purchase reinforces Seghesio’s commitment to farming and producing world-class Zinfandels from old vine vineyards in Sonoma County.

“We are thrilled to add this old vine Zinfandel site to our collection,” said Winemaker Ted Seghesio. “Old vine Zinfandel is a rarity in Russian River Valley today, which makes the remaining vineyards treasures.”

The Montafi Ranch Vineyard is planted primarily to Zinfandel, approximately 13 acres of which were planted back in 1916 and are known for producing bold, flavorful fruit. This addition will nicely complement Seghesio’s current old vine Zinfandel vineyards.

The historic winery, with a nearly 120-year-old history of planting Zinfandel in Sonoma County, is proud to be the new caretaker of a vineyard with a heritage as rich as its own. One of Sonoma’s most prominent old vine Zinfandel producers, Seghesio’s history in Sonoma dates back to 1895, when Italian immigrant Edoardo Seghesio planted his first vineyard, which became what is now known as Home Ranch, located in northern Alexander Valley. Today, Seghesio Family Vineyards is proud to produce wines made almost exclusively from estate-owned and estate-farmed vineyards, including that which Edoardo first planted in the late 1800’s.

For the near term, Seghesio will continue to sell some of the old vine fruit to Carlisle Winery for their existing Montafi Ranch Zinfandel.
